Chesed Christ

What title shall you give me?
What echo shall I reply?
Justice,” you say…
While indifference warms the masses,
And “just ones” shiver in the cold!

Poverty walks and lies
By the side of the world
With eyes that cannot see
The Face reflected
In the stars above.

Passers-by leave not a trace
In wind or earth,
That time “just” passed
That space was given
That life was here…

Just to see… Just to walk
Just to kneel… Just to touch
Just to carry… Just to fall
Just to cry…
Just to BE!

I do not know this name… Justice,
And so I cannot respond….
Can you find another “name”
One with blood and fire
That a heart can truly hear?

When brokenness bears its unknown twin,
And breaks and flows upon itself,
The name comes forth!
Unfailing Vulnerability,
Invincible Humility!

Passing by in fragrant Presence
Held in Holy gaze of Grace,
Wounded Samaritan connecting touch!
Chesed breaks…and bears…and binds…
Yes, alas….Our name is MERCY
