Sunkist Lover

Photo by Laura Telhiard Smith

We stood in the earth, and I watched Your clear eyes;
They grew and then softened as You breathed in the sky.
I lost my light footing in Your terrible exhale,
Blown fierce into ribbons of burnt oranges and yellows!

 Such beauty unfathomable I spun in the air,
Til placed as a star, You pointed at me.
Should I stay here now as a gem in Your hair?
Or fall to Your feet planted deep in the sea?

 Instead I slide down the “small” of Your back;
Gliding down centuries of smooth-caressed moments.
A jolt and I’m off, catapulted in vertigo;
Landing so gently in the lips of Your Kiss!

 Tickled You laugh, Your breath blows me a-way!
Then You chase me with frolic and wild-waving limbs!
The planets careen as they dodge your great stride;
I run, but not fast, circling back to Your shoulders.

 Finally you lie as a mountain with streams
That flow from the gathering dew in Your brow.
Your eyes tear as you teasingly open Your deep Hand
I stumble in slow motion to sleep in Your palm!
